Trigger finger is a type of stenosing tenosynovitis. It develops due to repetitive microinjury from frequent flexion-extension movements of the fingers. A patient with trigger finger finds it difficult to straighten or bend the affected finger.

In the treatment of trigger thumb, inadequate or excessive release of the flexor pulley can lead to secondary complications such as bowstringing. However, few studies detailed bowstringing after surgical release of the A1 pulley for trigger thumb and its influence on hand function. The purpose of this study was to determine the extent to which the release of the A1 pulley causes bowstringing in the treatment of trigger thumb, and how the percutaneous technique is beneficial to bowstringing and clinical function over open technique.

Ultrasound is ideally suited for the assessment of complex anatomy and pathologies of the thumb. Focused and dynamic thumb ultrasound can provide a rapid real-time diagnosis and can be used for guided treatment in certain clinical situations. We present a simplified approach to scanning technique for thumb-related pathologies and illustrate a spectrum of common and uncommon pathologies encountered.

Trigger fingerwhose medical name is stenosing tenosynovitis of the flexors is one of the most frequent tendon pathologies in hand surgery. Trigger finger can affect the longer fingers, but also the thumb, in which case the term trigger thumb is used. Trigger fingeris a conflict between the flexor tendons and the first pulley of the finger; this conflict induces inflammation of the synovial sheath around the tendon.

To investigate the effectiveness of ultrasound-guided release of the first annular pulley and compare results with the conventional open operative technique. In this prospective randomized, single-center, clinical study, 32 patients with trigger finger or trigger thumb, grade II-IV according to Green classification system, were recruited. Two groups were formed; Group A 16 patients was treated with an ultrasound-guided percutaneous release of the affected A1 pulley under local anesthesia.

Li, S. Background : Although current guidelines do not recommend the routine use of surgical antibiotic prophylaxis to reduce the risk of surgical site infection following clean, soft tissue hand surgery, antibiotics are nevertheless often used in patients with an existing joint prosthesis to prevent periprosthetic joint infection PJIdespite little data to support this practice. The initial search yieldedpatients, from whichwere excluded for not meeting continuous enrollment criteria, having a diagnosis of PJI before the observation period, or having another arthroplasty procedure before or during the observation period; the final study cohort consisted ofpatients of whichunderwent THA andunderwent TKA.
